My Casablanca won't start up, what should I do?
|
1.Verify that your power cable is connected properly to the Casablanca and the wall outlet.
2.Try a different power cable and outlet that you know is working
3.Remove the power plug from the back of the Casablanca and let it sit overnight to let the power supply reset (just a few minutes won't do it) and then plug back in.
4.Power down and hold the power button down as you disconnect the rear power plug. As you plug the power cord in the back of the unit press the power button on the front of the unit. See if this triggers a re-boot.
5.Check power button. It may be not hitting the contact point.
6.Try booting up with the system software card to see if the system needs the software to be updated or re-installed.
7.Disconnect all external devices, especially keyboards and firewire cables to make sure there isn't any cause of interference or a device needing to be reset.
If nothing works, contact MSUS for an RMA (303-801-1010)

Why can't I see the Casablanca's output on my monitor?
|
For Non-Avio users with video output issues:
1. Verify that your television or monitor is working and set to the correct input setting by feeding another source into its video input.
2. If you are running the video through a VCR, make sure that the VCR is set to the right input. It might be best for the moment to drop the VCR out of the equation and take the Casablanca's outputs directly to the monitor to confirm the Casablanca is working.
3.Try a different video cable.
4. If your machine came with a "Euroscart" adapter, it can be used in the scart port on the back of the Casablanca as a secondary composite output. If you are already using the scart adapter, make sure that the switch on the Euroscart is set to "Output"
5. If there are other devices (DV, USB keyboard, ethernet, s video in/out) connected to the machine, try removing them and keeping only the power, trackball, and the video output direct to the TV or monitor. It could be that one of the external devices has caused an interference or feedback loop.
For Avio Users - with a black and white signal
1. The first thing to check would be the "System Settings" menu and what option has been selected for "Video Output". If you are using s video cables to connect to the monitor then it should be set to YC. If you are just using an RCA video cable to connect to the monitor, then it should be set to CVBS. Using the opposite setting from the type of cable you are using would result in a black and white signal.
2. The other most common reason for getting a black and white signal is from a feedback loop. This occurs commonly if you are working with only one VCR and you have the outputs and inputs of this VCR both connected to the Casablanca.
3.The top scart will only send out a composite signal, so don't use an s video cable with it. For SVHS, use the bottom scart adapter.
4. Make sure your scart adapter is set to output.
5. Finally, check your cables. Swap them out if possible.

My Smart Edit machine is stuck on the main splash screen logo when I power up. What do I do?
|
Here are the usual items we try if a SE machine is stuck on the splash screen.
1.Try booting up with your OS smart card or CD. (Machine models Avio, Kron, Prestige, and regular Solitiares must use a smartcard in this case. They will not boot from the Boot CD like the Renommee, Renommee +, Solitaire +, Gymnos, and Claro models). The system may simply need to re-update OS software. It may even require more than one attempt at updating. We have had more than one report that repeated updates eventually got the system up and going.
The other option on booting with a smartcard is the Full Install. Remember that if you do a full install, that data will be cleared off of the drive. The full install is likely your last attempt to get the machine up before having it sent in. Typically if a full install will not get the machine up and going, then it's often a hardware component that has failed. For update or install steps, please see the "Software Installation Questions" section of the FAQ's.
2. While the system is off, try disconnecting all external devices to avoid any issues created by some kind of interference. (disconnect everything except: power, trackball, and video output. This disconnection of devices includes vga monitor, keyboard, DV, Ethernet etc.) Also, try moving the trackball to a new USB port. Then reboot and see if it will go back to the main menu.
3. While the system is off, remove rear power plug and let it sit for at least a few hours to our recommended overnight (to fully let the power supply reset - just a few minutes won't do it) and then plug back in. Reboot.
4. Let the drive stay up on the splash screen for longer periods of time than usual. Some of the drives we have looked at before had a physical problem, but it affected the boot up sector more than anything, which still gave access to the projects and editing, but took a long time to get to the main screen. Try waiting on the boot up for 1-2 hours if necessary and periodically check on the drive to see if it has kicked back up to the main menu.
5. Try the full installation of the Smart Edit software with a boot up of your smart card or CD.

On boot up, my Bogart system only has a black screen on it. What do I do?
|
If you connect your machine and boot up and see no image, but the LED light on the front displays "Macrosystem", you might just be in the wrong display mode. The correction to this is very simple.
Let's say in this case you are connecting to a DVI monitor when the machine was already set in single analog mode (note: machines ship in analog mode first as a default and the machine does not auto detect your monitor connection). The screen on the DVI monitor would appear black. There is a trick to use your trackball's right click buttons to switch screen modes without seeing the display. When the machine is powered up (theoretically it's on the main Bogart menu, you just can't see it right now) hold the right trackball button down for 6-7 seconds. The front LED should suddenly change to say "Display". It would be followed by the current display mode it is in. If the system was in single analog mode, it might say "Display: Scart". Pause, then you can press the large left trackball button to toggle to the next display mode (or the number keys off of the keyboard can be used too). As the system was set to single analog, the next mode would be DVI. Just wait about 15 seconds between screen switches. This should now switch the system to single DVI output and you will see the menus on the DVI monitor. This method is simply an emergency back door trick to switch monitor modes. You can also use the keyboard. Using your keyboard, use the number keys to switch the appropriate type of screen display. 1 = Scart or the analog output. 2= DVI output. And with 3 is VGA when you are using Bogart.
Using Bogart 2.4c or Bogart 3.2c, the emergency screen switch function can also be used on the Media Manager portion of the system. This would be useful in cases where you switch from Bogart to Media Manager and your screen display suddenly goes black. In most cases this means the Media Manager is resting on the main menu and has been set to a different monitor mode than you are using on Bogart. If this happens, same thing as before. Switch over to the Media Manager like usual to see the black screen. Then hold down the right trackball button for about 6-7 seconds. You will see a message on the front of your LED screen on the machine to indicate it's now in the "Display" mode. Using your keyboard, use the number keys to switch the appropriate type of screen display. 1 = Scart or the analog output. 2= DVI output. And with Bogart 3, the 3= HDMI output using the HDMI port on the back of S2000 or S4100 models.

My Bogart SE system boots up and keeps asking me for my Bogart SE codes and entering it in doesn't work. What should I do?
|
This could be a response of the system looking for an external device to boot from by accident and seeing it as a device that hasn't had the Bogart software installed. We've seen this happen in a couple of case histories. (note: Also double check your code sheet to be sure the code matches the serial number you see on the screen. It might be a wrong code number got entered.
1. Shut the machine down. Remove all external cables for firewire and USB. Keep it simple. Just have the power, your video output, trackball and keyboard connected. Then reboot. The system should go back to the main menu. Check things out and then reconnect the needed devices.
2. Force power down the machine. Remove the rear power cable and let the machine sit for 20-30 minutes. Then reboot.
3. Try booting up with your Bogart OS CD. Insert the disc into the DVD tray. Force shut down. Then reboot. Let it walk you through the messages to do a system "Update". Be sure when you do this that there aren't any other external drives or firewire devices connected.
4. We've once seen this happen on a test machine where the system just needed to cycle down and reboot a couple of times and then it went away. Weren't exactly sure of the cause on this one.
5. If the problem continues, contact our support line (either email or phone). Be sure to indicate current monitor mode, Bogart SE version, and what it exactly says on the screen.

When I boot up my SE machine, I see the splash screen, but after a bit and icon comes in the upper corner that has a smart card with an arrow that moves up and down over it. What should I do?
|
The system is not currently seeing software on the hard drive. The arrow is the indication that it wants you to try to install system software from your smart media card that contains the Smart Edit (SE) product. Here are the usual things that might cause that error:
1. There is a non-installation smart card in the reader. Make sure the reader is empty.
2. Remove rear power plug and let it sit for at least a few hours to our recommended overnight (to fully let the power supply reset - just a few minutes won't do it) and then plug back in. In addition to this, you might try tripping the voltage switch once. On some Casablanca models like the Avio and Kron you can trip the voltage switch from 115 to 230 and right back to 115. You'll find the little red voltage switch right underneath the rear power plug port. It might be covered up by a little bar code sticker. Once you've tripped the switch over, let it sit for a bit and then plug the power back in and try rebooting. Just be sure you don't leave the voltage set for 230. You can see the tiny voltage on the red switch to be sure it's not set for 230. The 230 voltage switch is what you would use if you took the unit overseas. We use the 115 setting here. )
3. Disconnect all external devices, especially a USB reader device and DV cable if it is connected (dual monitor, keyboard, recorders etc.) to make sure there isn't any cause of interference or a device needing to be reset.
4. Worst case is one of two things. One, that it is not hardware and there is hard drive crash going on. The Hard drive needs to have software installed. Insert your System Software smart card and choose to do a system full installation. You could try doing a simple "Update". It's either going to help, make no difference, or be refused by the system. If it can't even do a full installation of SE software, then it would likely be a physical failure with either the drive or maybe the IDE data cable. If you have the ability to try a different hard drive, then you may want to do that. It might help determine if the problem is hard drive specific.
5. The hard drive's internal connection has come slightly loose (either due to machine movements, travel, or years of internal vibrations) is not connected all the way. It's possible the lid could be lifted off to see that the connections from the drive and to the motherboard are solid. We could send an attachment by email on how to open the lid then to check those hard drive connections.
This would only be recommended if the machine is already out of warranty. A SE machine still under warranty would have it voided by opening it. If your machine is still covered under warranty, then contact our support team.
