MacroSystem Americas

is ecstatic to announce the release of

Bogart 8 and Arabesk 7 for Windows!!

A dozen years ago there was one standard format used by all the camera manufacturers, and it was called DV. Today there are no standards. Each camera shoots in many different formats. The smart shooter will shoot short clips of each of their camera formats, and see which one works the best for them with short projects output to DVD or YouTube, etc. In other words, do what you normally do with a project, but do it with many formats using short clips, to determine the best picture you can achieve for your project budget. Most of us work in the time is money world; so find a format and quality setting that is quick enough without sacrificing too much picture quality.

However not everyone can navigate the menus buried deep in their cameras to test the different formats, so now Bogart 8.3 will recognize the format you are trying to import into Bogart, tell you what the format is, and ask if you want Bogart to automatically change your Project Setting to the same format. In the past when there was a mismatch of the project format and the import format, it would take Bogart forever to change (transcode) the camera format to the project format. It would say slow scaling on the screen as it did this data intensive task. Now it will show you the format mismatch, and ask if you want Bogart to automatically change the Project Format. Normally you would say YES, and the video would zip right in. But you can also say NO in the rare case you do want to transcode the camera format to your Project Setting format.

We now have the option to shoot and edit in 4K. This is huge, because the frame grabs off of the 4K video are over 8K (3840 x 2160 = 8,294,400 Pixels). Wedding and event shooters can now offer their clients a photo package of every frame of all of the captured video on an external USB hard drive or thumb drive (if big enough). Just put all the video you want frame grabs of in the Storyboard, and go to the Export Menu. Select JPEG in the MODE pull down menu, and click Export. Then select the external USB drive, and save. Come back later after it exports thousands of photos automatically. Copy the files to additional drives if you have more than one client. Here are pictures of the Export Menu, destination selection folder, and the frame grabs on the drive and in the folder you selected:

We just had a 8.3 second clip in the Storyboard at 30 frames per second, and it captured 251 frames. If you were working with the optimal 60 frames per second progressive (cameras now start at about $1,000), the following math would apply: 1 second equal 60 frames. 1 minute equals 3600 frames. 60 minutes equals 216,000 frame grabs.

The Bogart 8 and Arabesk 7 advantages and benefits are too many to write about here, so here is a summary with many of the features of the different versions of Bogart Window 8 Gold, Silver, or Bronze (also the Bogart Linux 8 Gold, Silver, or Bronze versions):

We do not want to bury Arabesk 7 any deeper, as it is a major upgrade. The number one improvement is DVD Chapters are now defined in the Edit Menu, and are accurate. This feature only works with Bogart 7 & 8, and not version 6. Number two is auto can be turned on so it will adjust the data rate enough to fit your project into your disc size (you can also manually adjust data rate). Number 3 is the Disc Menu can be used on both the DVD and BluRay disc, so you only have to design the disc once. Number 4 is Disc Preview so you can test all the functions of your disc before burning. Number 5 is the Bi-Lingual capability of any 2 languages. Carried forward from Arabesk 6 were 10-disc project capability, and the ability to export ISO files. You can email the ISO file to a duplication house or client, who can then dupe or burn the project. You can also archive all your discs, and burn them when an order comes in. There are many free Internet programs that will burn ISO files to disc, or you can import it back into Arabesk 7 for burning there. Those are the highlights, but there are many other new features. Arabesk 7 loads when you download and install Bogart Windows 8. It will run in Demo Mode if you want to try it for free first.
